Corner on Main is a non-linear, interactive webcomic created in 2008. I wanted to take a single block of about 15 minutes, and tell many different stories that all happen in that same short period of time. The comic’s title is the nickname of the convenience store around which all the stories take place; one vignette is from the perspective of the shop clerk, another is from some of the customers in the store, and so forth.
I created CoM over a 10-week academic quarter during my last year of study in the Art & Tech program at the Ohio State University. I had grand plans for this comic to include many different story tracks all converging around the convenience store, though I only finished two of them during the course of my independent study, for a total of 26 comic pages. I’ve got ideas for more characters and stories to tell in this universe, which I will hopefully get to making someday.
The original web version of CoM utilized some of the unique capabilites of webcomics, mainly linking together instances of the same character between different story tracks, making for a truly non-linear reading experience as the reader jumped from story to story, following different characters. This archive is a much simpler, conventional webcomic presentation, and I am investigating ways to bring the interactivity back, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless.
